I'm also an angry optimist
This video was shared with me and I knew I was going to enjoy it. I have followed Jack Conte for quite a while mostly for his music and the musicians that have played with him. I knew he was the CEO of Patreon, but I did not realize how much he was into creating videos.
Jack's Talk
Emotional, Inspiring, and Incredible
My form of artistic expression has always been music. I haven't written my own songs, but I have completed small compositions. I primarily played classical music and live musicals (trombone) before joining a few bands and playing bass guitar. Over the years I have picked up many more instruments, but trombone is still my favorite and bass is my default for new engagements.
Jack's passion for the art he creates shines in this talk and reminds me that it is not only allowable to have multiple passions, but a real boon to life to have so many varied interests. Personally, I love that Jack jokes about how he has to care about AI because he runs a tech company. I am software engineer myself and the AI frontier is absolutely fascinating and terrifying.
Thinking about human creativity as a way forward for now is exactly why I am still excited about joining a new band and joining the growing list of software engineers and data scientists that working to keep this exponential change from driving off a cliff.
